> One of the biggest misconceptions I had of hiring a personal trainer was that their role and expertise did not extend beyond training people who wish to lose weight or body build. A little research and a trial with Lift now coming on to almost 3 months now changed this misconstrued idea. I neither wished to lose weight nor compete in bodybuilding competitions. Rather, my goal is sport-specific: to better climb. Sports climbing, rock climbing and bouldering require a great deal of strength and with Meghan as my personal trainer, I soon learned the extent of how a personal trainer helps in achieving your goal. First, I’ve reached a plateau in climbing when I first started to look into options in how to better myself. At Lift, my trainer helped in overcoming this plateau by introducing weighted sport-specific exercises. The harder climbing routes that I couldn’t do before thus get easier as time goes by. Second, there is a plan. The advantage with working with my trainer is that she created a training program tailored to my sport. She keeps it challenging, interesting and ensures I am doing the exercises correctly, therefore ensuring effective and efficient sessions. Third, motivation and accountability. If I have a set time and someone expecting me, then there is no way I can bail! I keep my appointments as I am well aware that sport-specific training is an investment of time and my participation is obviously required. Having a trainer is also great in the sense that it keeps me motivated to improve and the great sense of accomplishment of taking my climbing to another level is great to share. For all these reasons as I continue my journey with Lift, I am thankful to Meghan for helping me get there. I look forward to achieving greater success in my climbing abilities in the next coming months and appreciate how Meghan and the staff at Lift have helped me in attaining my goals. > I started training at Lift with only 100 days left before my wedding. When I approached Lift, my motivation was like any soon to be bride – I wanted to look my best in that white wedding dress. After just a few weeks, it became about so much more than that. I started developing muscles in places I never knew existed; my body was changing and becoming more defined, and better yet – stronger! As someone who has been intimidated by the gym scene most of my life, I have learned to embrace the gym and the staff at Lift make the whole experience comfortable, inviting, and completely approachable. I LOVE going to this gym – my sessions are something I look forward to all week. This is a totally new feeling for me – to actually get excited to work out. But it’s true! > Where to begin? How about I try and explain to you a little bit about my old lifestyle prior to joining Lift in March 2012. At that time, I really wasn’t cognisant of how poor my eating habits and poor exercise regime was. I genuinely thought – “I eat healthy enough but just need to start doing more cardio to lose weight”. The people at Lift helped me realise I was totally and utterly wrong on both accounts! The majority of what I thought was “healthy food” wasn’t actually healthy. For example, low fat doesn’t necessarily mean “better for you”. Usually it means pumped fill of chemicals, salt and/or sugar! Yikes – that doesn’t sound good what so ever. I came to realise that if I’m are looking for a “low fat” version of whatever it is that I want to eat – maybe I shouldn’t be eating it at all? I’ve learned this and so much more from the personal trainers at Lift about nutrition. Once I started to adopt a clean diet and implement proper supplementation; I had 10 times more energy, glowing skin and a much more positive attitude towards life in general. Before starting at Lift I thought, “the more exercise the better”, you too right? I soon came to realise that this isn’t the case what-so-ever. When I joined Lift the quality of my workouts increased dramatically! I stress quality here and not quantity. Too much exercise can actually set you back (just as much as too little food can). I am a member of the 6am group training classes with Silas Robinson (who is a superhuman, by the way) and attend 4-5 times per week. Silas has ALWAYS given us quality, difficult and different work-outs every… single... day… His work outs are dynamic and build on your strength and cardio at the same time. Plus, they are always super fun and always full of smiles! When I walked into Lift I had no idea that in 4 months time I would have dropped 8% body fat and gained a completely new and healthy lifestyle! A lifestyle that I am now totally addicted to. But most importantly, Lift taught me the right ways to get in great shape. I encourage you to join us in the 6am classes and get addicted too, you won’t regret it Overall I wanted to say thank-you to Lift and Silas because without you I wouldn’t be even close to reaching my goals.
I have been a skater for 37 years, first as a figure skater for 13 years, then moving on to in-line. When the fabulous sport of Roller Derby came to Fredericton 2 years ago, I jumped on board. The problem was, I was a good skater but as I had aged I had neglected the strength training and overall conditioning I needed to skate competitively and safely. By the summer of 2011 I was seriously injured spending months off skates and thousands of dollars rehabbing both knees and a separated shoulder. Not only could I not skate, I was using 2 canes for several months. Would my injuries plague me for life? Should I listen to everyone telling me I was too old for this, that I should let go of my midlife crisis? Could I resurrect my broken and weakened body at 43, skate injury free and maybe even excel in my new demanding sport? As I hobbled down the street knew that this was my goal. I would complete my rehab, get rid of these canes and bring in the 2012 season right. All I needed was a little help.
In January of 2012 I called Silas at Lift Personal Fitness. I will never forget Silas’s words when I asked “Do you think I can do this?” A big knowing smile came over his face…”Oh yeah! Absolutely!” His confidence in me was palpable. I followed his ever changing, ever challenging workouts, his spot on nutritional advice and saw results ….fast! I love Silas’s holistic approach to training, body, mind, body spirit. By May I felt ready - strong and healthy. I am a Jammer. I skate fast, score points and have a bull’s-eye on my back. I am thrilled to report that not only have I enjoyed an injury free season, I love the sport even more! I am more explosive, agile, stable and powerful and this leaves me more energy to do what I love….skate!

|> “25 Lbs since Jan!” In January of this year, knowing that I needed to lose some weight and improve my health but feeling discouraged, I joined a two week Bootcamp at Lift Personal Fitness. I had been to a few other gyms before, with little motivation and no success. But Silas changed that quickly with his intense yet revitalizing work-outs! In September of 2011, I decided to make some serious changes for my health. I had started to eat properly and choose more nutritious foods. I also wanted to find a gym to go to, and when I went to talk to the guys at lift, I was so impressed with how they run a gym, I decided to give it a try. First thing they did was set me up with a great routine which was created specifically for me, based on what I told them I wanted to get out of my workout. After a month my trainer changed it up and give me a new more challenging routine. After 2 months I notice great improvements in my health, more energy, my stress levels were down, and I managed to gain almost 15 pounds of muscle from the point where I first started. Which is exactly what I was looking for, because I was underweight. LIFT PERSONAL FITNESS has been a great success for me, and I look forward to working with my trainers in the future and seeing how far I can take myself! I've been diabetic for over 13 years now. For nearly 6 years leading up to September 2011 I didn't manage my diabetes properly and didn't do proper exercises. I was suffering from complications due to the diabetes and lack of healthy choices in my life. It was the lowest point of my life. I didn't have much hope. I reached a point where I knew I simply couldn't live like this. I had to make some choices. I decided to just make an attempt. Just maybe I could reverse some of these negative things in my life. When I signed on at LIFT PERSONAL FITNESS I started working out a few times a week, and with a healthier diet it only took a couple of weeks and I started feeling better, I started putting on weight, as of May 2012, I feel great, lots of energy, I'm up nearly 20 pounds since I started, and my diabetes is well under control. My goals now are to continue growing and getting stronger, maybe gain another 20 pounds, and I hope to be a positive inspiration for others who may need to make similar life changes.

Lift and SFL’s “6 week Fitness Ambassador Challenge” was amazing. Silas challenged me every day during the workouts to make me push past my comfort zone to really see results. |> Thanks to Amy at Lift, I may be on my way to avoiding the heat attack that hit both grandfather's in their forties. When Silas and Amy decided to open a boutique gym a few years ago, I said I'd give it a try to be supportive but reflecting on my high school experience I knew I was uncoordinated and an athletic failure. I half heart-idly tried to find someone to go with me and finally just bought massage gift certificates for me and my staff. Even those seemed hard to use...so hard in fact, the masseuse left before any of staff used them. After a year of knowing I had lost hundreds of dollars, the Irish in my DNA got the best of me. I convinced my cousin that we should give personal training at Lift a try. Without her support, I would have even procrastinated on this step. After five months, in turns out that my high school perceptions may have been all wrong. Apparently being able to get balls through hoops has little bearing on one's heath. Exercise executed in a way that avoids injury is the key and encouragement from Amy keeps us coming back. Now the person who was a miserable failure at sports is confident in his abilities, interested in his health and is probably better in shape than many of his high school peers who aced gym class. I'd strongly recommend giving Lift a try if you're afraid of the gym but know you need you need to get a handle on your health.|

|Being a competitive swimmer for 15 years of my life, competing in Canada Games and National Championships, exercise and healthy eating were a huge part of my life. Without any other distractions or responsibilities, it was easy to get my workouts in and eat healthy. Now being a mom to two young boys and a wife, I couldn't seem to find the time to workout and grabbing a bag of gummies and chips was easier than cooking a meal, especially when I knew they probably wouldn't eat what i cooked anyway. I was overweight, out of shape, had no energy and just felt bad about myself. I joined LIFT in October through a one month promotion they had on. Within that one month, i could already see the changes in both my body and mind. I decided to sign up for a year membership and it was the best decision of my life. I am able to get an amazing 45 minute workout in on my lunch breaks, which gives me the mid afternoon boost I need. Due to LIFT getting me back to feeling great, i have added boxing and teaching spin classes at the YMCA into my regimen. I have also signed up for the 1/2 marathon in May and three triathlons. The atmosphere and the people at LIFT are truly amazing and I cant thank them enough for getting my life back on track. There is truly is nothing better than feeling strong and healthy and now I have enough energy to keep up to my two boys! ( well, almost)|

When I started training at Lift, I was looking for a bit of extra guidance to improve my fitness level through strength training and increase muscle mass. To be honest, I was expecting a generic series of rather uninteresting exercises similar to what other gym trainers had done for me in the past. What I got was so much more! After a comprehensive initial assessment, we started a program that was clearly tied to my overall goals, as well as being interesting, challenging and fun (something I thought I would never say about weight lifting!). Within weeks, I began to see significant improvements in my strength, tone and endurance. The sessions are very motivating, and are different each time, keeping me on my toes. The staff are excellent to work with, and as a result I am expanding my fitness goals, even considering fitness competitions!

|> Before LIFT was LIFT, I worked out with Silas. At that time I wanted to be able to run for a longer time while playing Frisbee; that was the only thing. Silas did what I ask him concentrating in incremental intervals... then winter came and I decided I wanted a rest. Meanwhile Silas embarked on one of the greatest adventures of all: owning your business. Being an early client and a supporter of Silas’ dreams and paintings (he paints awesome by the way), I was more than happy to train at LIFT, although this time it was not about improvement but recuperation. I had surgery for my right ACL in May 2012 and luckily had received great physiotherapy that had me walking almost without limping in a month, so I didn't want to lose that with my own indiscipline. I called Silas and I said "You have to take care of me!!! I am limping because I am super lazy!!" He immediately trusted my care to the awesome Meghan. Meghan, Silas and all the staff at LIFT have been great. They take care of me and make sure you feel welcome at the gym. The space is what you want it to be as it is a personal experience. The truth is I hate gyms. I get bored and I don't like to do the same thing every time, and I am a little princess that likes attention... I get this and more at LIFT. Meghan made my recuperation painless and quick, and now she is changing my workouts slowly to include all my body (don't think I didn't notice you sneaking upper body exercises on me lady!!) and the best is that I have awesome chats and the time passes by super quick... the truth is that I am always looking forward to my next session because I have fun, I feel welcomed, and I know they will take care of me!! Now some pants don't fit because I have muscles, not because I am melting. I am running, jumping and my posture has improved but the best of all is that I have a place where I feel welcome and I can go to have a pick me up chat and positive words. > I tried surfing for the first time when I was in my 30s and loved it, but found I didn't have the strength to paddle through the waves and "pop up" on the surfboard. After a half hour in the water I was exhausted and had to quit. I started training with Silas focusing on upper body and core strength as well as balance exercises. I've always felt i was a strong person physically, overweight but strong. I was nervous about starting at Lift, and what Silas would have in store for me in workouts. The fitness coaches are friendly, knowledgeable, and consider their clients’ health and well-being a priority. Silas has been my fitness coach for approximately 1 year. I mostly enjoy the variety of movements incorporated into my training sessions. It is evident that Silas keeps current on fitness trends and equipment as his workouts are always different and include the use of a variety of tools (e.g., TRX, rope, medicine balls, ect…) This makes for exciting and challenging workouts. Silas is result driven. As such, my fitness goals are revisited on a regular basis to ensure that my training sessions are tailored to meet my needs. During the course of my year training with Silas, I encountered some medical issues, limiting my physical capabilities. Thanks to Silas’ flexibility, consistency and positive support, I was able to remedy my medical issues while maintaining in good physical condition and spirit. Silas’ ability and willingness to work with my limitations attest to his true character – he’s a caring individual, devoted to the health and happiness of his clients. His ability to adapt my workouts yet still challenge me demonstrates his knowledge and experience as a fitness guru, and dedication to client satisfaction. When I walked into Lift, I needed a change and was looking for something different than the same old gym experience. I joined Lift mostly for the group training and after only a few classes, I knew I was in the right place! Every class was different and the trainers always had new ideas and exercises for us to try. I use to hide in the back of exercise classes so I would blend in, but it was never like that at Lift. At Lift I knew everyone by name and the staff were always happy to see me. The class sizes were small enough that the trainers could help us with proper form while instructing and requests were always welcomed and tailored to us. I always left Lift feeling like I had a good workout! I would recommend Lift's group training and Bootcamps (especially if you like the outdoors) to anyone, no matter what level of fitness! Just in the couple of months I spent at Lift I lost inches, increased my strength and gained confidence... Not to mentioning all the other benefits that come with exercising! Lift help me achieve things I could never accomplish by myself. If I did not move out of province, I would never have left Lift Personal Fitness!
